The Cleveland Baseball Club homered scored 11 runs powered by an offensive outburst featuring four home runs in their win over the Yankees.

It was quite the power display from the Cleveland Baseball Club Saturday afternoon as they clobbered four home runs en route to a 11-3 win over the New York Yankees. Cleveland totaled 12 hits while walking four times while going 5-13 with runners in scoring position. The Yankees did manage eight hits in the game (two homers) and four walks while going going hitless (0-4) with runners in scoring position.

Cleveland’s long balls came from two likely sources and two not so likely sources. Beginning with likely it was Jose Ramirez and Franmil Reyes hitting their 34th and 30th home runs on the year respectively. Meanwhile it was the eighth round tripper of the year for Yu Chang and just the third for Andres Gimenez. Additionally, Chang and Reyes would collect RBI doubles in the contest which helped add to Cleveland’s run total.

Aaron Civale took the mound for Cleveland as he kept a potent Yankees lineup off the scoreboard for 6 innings. Civale allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out four to earn his 11th win of the season.

The Yankees did their damage in the run department with Bryan Shaw and Justin Garza on the mound. Combined Shaw and Garza allowed three runs on three hits and two walks (both Garza’s). All three of New York’s home runs came on home runs, a solo shot form Giancarlo Stanton and a two-run homer from Luke Voit in the 8th.

The third and final game of the series will take place Sunday at 1:05 P.M. Cleveland can continue to play spoiler to a Yankees team currently on the outside of the playoff picture entering Sunday.

Cleveland clobbers Twins 12-3

The Cleveland Baseball Club capped off their final game of their series with the Minnesota Twins with a 12-3 beatdown at Target Field.

There is nothing like a lopsided win and that is just what the Cleveland Baseball Club got Thursday night at Target Field. Cleveland scored 12 runs on 14 hits as they they came away with a nine run victory.

Cleveland got some impressive power output from Oscar Mercado, Bobby Bradley, and Franmil Reyes. Mercado hit a three-run homer in the 5th to extend Cleveland’s lead to four. While it was the only hit of the game for Mercado, it was quite impactful.

Bradley came through with a two-run shot in 7th to give Cleveland a 10 run lead. It was the second RBI hit of the game for Bradley as he doubled home Jose Ramirez in the 4th.

Reyes capped off their scoring effort with a solo shot in the 9th to make it a 12-3 game. It was a 3-5 effort for Reyes in the contest as he came through with a RBI single in the 7th as well.

Jose Ramirez also had a productive outing, going 3-4 with a sacrifice fly in the 5th and a RBI single in the 7th.

Myles Straw also had three hits in five at-bats, scoring twice along the way.

Cal Quantrill got the start for Cleveland and was fairly impressive. Three runs did come around to score with Qunatrill on the mound, but none were earned. Overall Quantirll allowed three hits and two walks on the night while striking out four.

Cleveland will continue their road trip as they make their way to The Bronx to take on the New York Yankees who are fighting for a playoff spot.

Cleveland loses to Twins 6-3

The Cleveland Baseball Club was not able to complete the doubleheader sweep of the Minnesota Twins, losing. by a score of 6-3.

The first of two games went well for the Cleveland Baseball Club as they came away with a 3-1 win in the first half of their doubleheader with the Minnesota Twins. The second game was not as kind to Cleveland as after taking an early lead, Minnesota stormed back to hand Cleveland a 6-3 loss.

Cleveland did all of their work offensively in the 3rd inning. With two outs and Oscar Mercado on second, it was Amed Rosario coming through with a two-out RBI double. Jose Ramirez would follow with a two-out RBI double of his own to increase the lead to two. Franmil Reyes would subsequently drive in Ramirez with a single, Cleveland’s final run of the game.

The problems for Cleveland’s starter, Logan Allen, popped up in the 4th inning. After keeping the Twins off the board for the first three innings, Minnesota did some two out damage of their own. Allen allowed three straight two-out RBI hits, just like Charlie Barnes did the inning prior with Cleveland batting. Minnesota chased Allen from the game as he failed to get out of the 4th inning.

Trevor Stephan relieved Allen and managed to end the inning with Cleveland trailing 4-3. The Twins would extend their lead as Stephan allowed a two-run homer in the 6th. Cleveland was not able to present a real threat offensively for the remainder of the game leading to the loss.

The series continues in Minnesota Wednesday at 7:40 P.M.

Three homers power Cleveland to 4-1 win over Twins

The Cleveland Baseball Club homered three times to avoid the sweep and come away with a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Twins.

Just a few days ago the Cleveland Baseball Club’s franchise record homer streak came to an end as they lost 3-0 to the Minnesota Twins. A second straight 3-0 loss to Minnesota led to Cleveland on the brink of being swept in a four game series. This time around Cleveland not only managed to score at least one run, they managed to homer three times en route to four runs and a 4-1 victory.

Trailing 1-0 in the 3rd inning it was time for Cleveland’s offense to wake up. After Myles Straw reached on a walk, it was a mammoth blast from Franmil Reyes which gave Cleveland a 2-1 lead.

The very next inning it was Oscar Mercado’s turn to homer. Mercado took a 1-1 pitch and hit it over the wall in left.

Wanting to get in on the action, Jose Ramirez got his home run pitch and deposited into the right field seats.

The run scoring for Cleveland was only half the equation Thursday night. An impressive start from Cal Quantrill provided the opportunity to win the game. Quantrill allowed just one run, a Miguel Sano homer in the 2nd. Besides the Sano homer, Quantrill allowed three other hits while striking out five and walking two in 7.2 innings. Blake Parker finished the 8th on just four pitches while Emmanuel Clase handled the 9th to earn his 22nd save of the year.

Cleveland’s home stand continues as they begin a three game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at 7:10 P.M.

Four homers power Cleveland past Texas 7-2

The Cleveland Baseball Club bounced back Wednesday as they homered four times in their 7-2 win over the visiting Texas Rangers.

Looking to change their fortunes from Tuesday’s 7-3 loss, Cleveland turned to the long ball. Cleveland homered four times in the contest as they came away with a 7-2 victory over Texas, a near inverse of the result from the previous day.

Oscar Mercado, Yu Chang, and Austin Hedges each hit solo home runs to get the scoring started. With Mercado homering in the 2nd while Chang and Hedges each went yard in the 5th. The Rangers were able to cut the Cleveland lead to one after a Jason Martin two-run homer in the 6th.

Even though the Rangers were doing their best to come back, Cleveland answered in the bottom half of the 6th with a RBI double from Chang and an Owen Miller RBI single.

Franmil Reyes would hit Cleveland’s fourth home run of the contest in the 7th, making it a 6-2 game. The final run of the game was scored in the 8th as Miller grounded into a fielder’s choice allowing Bradley Zimmer to score.

Zach Plesac started the game for Cleveland, scattering eight hits and three walks across 5.2 innings with 2 runs scoring. James Karinchak, Blake Parker, and Emmanuel Clase handled the final 3.1 innings, with Karinchak and Parker allowing the only Rangers hits over the final frames.

The third and final game of the series will take place 7:10 P.M. Thursday at Progressive Field as both teams look to win the series.

Reyes, Ramirez homer in 9-1 Cleveland win

The Cleveland Baseball Club took an early lead and did not look back as they collected 14 hits in a 9-1 win over the Angels.

When taking on the Angels, one would expect the fireworks in the box to come from one Shohei Ohtani. While the AL MVP favorite did manage a single, the long balls came from the Cleveland dugout.

Franmil Reyes clobbered a three-run bomb in the bottom of the 1st to give Cleveland a 3-0 lead, a lead which they would hold the rest of the game.

The second homer came in the 8th with Jose Ramirez connecting on a home run pitch to make it a 9-1 game.

It was the 28th home run of the season for Ramirez.

In all Cleveland scored nine runs on 14 hits while the Angels could only muster one run on four hits.

Sam Hentges started the game for Cleveland, allowing three hits and the only run for the Angels. Hentges would strike out two and walk one in his 4 innings of work.

Trevor Stephan would follow, allowing just one hit and striking out two in 3 innings.

Blake Parker and Justin Garza handled the final two innings, not allowing a base runner.

Cleveland falls in extras to Twins 5-4

The Cleveland Baseball Club was not able to come through with a clutch hit as the Minnesota Twins won 5-4 in extra-innings.

Ultimately the result of a game can come down to whether a team is able to get a timely hit. Cleveland had multiple chances with the game tied, but was simply unable to do so. While Minnesota squandered an opportunity prior to extra-innings, a RBI double from Jorge Polanco in the 10th was the difference in what ended up as a 5-4 loss for Cleveland.

In the 8th inning Bradley Zimmer, who hit a two-run homer earlier in the game to give Cleveland a brief 2-1 lead, reached on a walk with one out in the inning. Zimmer would proceed to steal second and eventually reach third on a wild pitch. This was the perfect chance for someone to drive in Zimmer to reclaim the lead. Unfortunately all Oscar Mercado and Owen Miller could muster was a strikeout and groundout respectively.

In the 10th with Amed Rosario on second, it was a Jose Ramirez groundout followed by consecutive strikeouts by Franmil Reyes and Zimmer which led to the Twins coming through in the bottom of the inning.

Cal Quantrill was Cleveland’s starter and pitched well enough to possibly earn a win. Quantrill danced around eight hits and one walk in 5 innings, allowing just three runs while striking out four. It was not the best outing for Quantrill, but it kept Cleveland in the game and at one point allowed them to take the lead.

The late innings were not kind to Nick Wittgren as his performance was symbolic of his season long struggles. In 1.2 innings Wittgren would walk three batters and allow three hits, the final one being the game-winning RBI double from Polanco. Ultimately it is losses like this one which show just how far away Cleveland is from being an actual contender.

Cleveland loses to A’s in extras 4-3

Extra-innings were not kind to the Cleveland Baseball Club as they lost to the Oakland Athletics by a score of 4-3.

A two-out RBI double from Jed Lowrie in the Top of the 10th gave Oakland the lead and that would be just enough to hand the Cleveland Baseball Club a loss Tuesday night. In the bottom of the 10th it was a groundout from Amed Rosario, a line out from Jose Ramirez, and a strikeout from Bradley Zimmer which ended the game in three straight at-bats.

Cleveland actually had a chance to win this game prior to extras, but James Karinchak was not able to hold the lead in the 8th. Karinchak allowed one run on two hits in just 1 inning. The concerning aspect for Karinchak is that he failed to record a strikeout. Karinchak has not quite been himself for several months this season leading to speculation about why he was so much better earlier than later in the season.

Myles Straw and Rosario both went 2-5 with a run scored in the contest, the only Cleveland batters to collect multiple hits. Jose Ramirez and Franmil Reyes combined to go 0-6 with three walks between them (Reyes walking twice). Harold Ramirez and Owen Miller were the only other batters to collect a hit as both went 1-3 with a walk.

Two of Cleveland’s run came on infield singles, Harold Ramirez in the 1st and Rosario in the 2nd. Straw’s RBI double, also in the 2nd, was Cleveland’s only extra-base hit in the contest.

Cleveland drops third straight game in Toronto

The Cleveland Baseball Club lost their third consecutive game to the Toronto Blue Jays as they were shutout in a 3-0 loss.

The trip north of the border did not go well for the Cleveland Baseball Club as they lost their third straight game, this time a 3-0 loss. Cleveland managed just three hits in in the contest off of Ross Stripling. Stripling has not had a great season and this could have been an opportunity for Cleveland to put up some big numbers, but they collectively failed to score a run.

Amed Rosario (1-3), Franmil Reyes (1-3), and Owen Miller (1-3) were the only Cleveland batters to register a hit. Rosario and Reyes also reached via base on balls in the contest. Bradley Zimmer, Myles Straw, Bobby Bradley, Harold Ramirez, Oscar Mercado, Austin Hedges, Ernie Clement combined to go 0-22 with six strikeouts.

Triston McKenzie started the game for Cleveland, allowing three runs on five hits while walking four over 7 innings. McKenzie allowed all three runs with Bo Bichette in the plate. Bichette would hit a two-run homer in the 4th and drive in another run with a RBI single in the 6th.

Bryan Shaw would work clean 8th inning, recording all three outs on 15 pitches.

Cleveland returns home to take on the Detroit Tigers Friday night. It has been six losses their last 10 games for Cleveland while Detroit has six wins over that same span.

Cleveland gives up two runs late in 6-4 loss

Issues in the 8th led to the Cleveland Baseball Club letting a tie game slip away from them leading to a 6-4 loss.

The post-trade deadline Cleveland Baseball Club is experiencing the same issues the pre-deadline version did. With the game tied at 4 in the 8th, it was James Karinchak who came into the mound. Karinchak failed to record an out as the White Sox tallied two runs on three hits and one walk.

There was a moment where tempers flared as Karinchak unintentionally hit Jose Abreu in the helmet with a wild pitch. This allowed the final run to score as Chicago would go on to win the game 6-4 as a result. Karinchak was received by Nick Wittgren who proceeded to strike out the next three batters.

Prior to the issues in the 8th, Cleveland was able to get out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a two RBI double from Franmil Reyes. Chicago would go on to score three unanswered runs from the 2nd to 4th innings off of JC Mejia. Mejia would last just 4.1 innings as he allowed four runs on four hits and four walks.

Jose Ramirez would tie things up in the 5th with a RBI single. The White Sox would again take the lead, this time by Blake Parker walking in a run, the final run charged to Mejia.

A solo home run from Franmil Reyes in the 8th would find things all tied up yet again. But this preceded the ineffective outing from Karinchak which ultimately led to the loss for Cleveland.

This was the first game since Terry Francona stepped away for remainder of the season. Cleveland is in the mode of finding things out about the younger fringe type guys on the roster , so a high volume of loses the rest of the way would hardly be surprising. Game 2 in Chicago is set to take place at 7:10 P.M.
