Shane Bieber starts for Cleveland against White Sox

The reigning American League Cy Young Award winner takes the mound as the Cleveland Baseball Club takes on the Chicago White Sox.

It is time for the Cleveland Baseball Club to continue a significantly more difficult part of their schedule as they take on the Chicago White Sox Tuesday. Good thing for them they can call on reigning AL Cy Young winner Shane Bieber to start Game 2 in Chicago.

Shane Bieber is 0-1 on the year, but don’t let the record fool you. Bieber has stuck out 24 batters in just 12.1 innings pitched this season, which leads all of baseball. Bieber’s last start came against the Royals on Wednesday as he came away with a no-decision in the Cleveland win. Bieber allowed 2 runs on 3 hits with 12 strikeouts, the issue being the 4 walks in the game. The 25-year old pitcher needs to cut down on the free passes in order to go deeper into games.

In his career Shane Bieber has had some trouble when facing a few White Sox batters. Jose Abreu is 7-20 with 3 home runs and Yoan Moncada is 6-19 with 2 home runs and 1 double. It will be crucial for Bieber to shut these two bats down Tuesday if he wants to put Cleveland in a position to win.

Chicago’s starter will be Lucas Giolito who is 1-0 on the season with a 4.22 ERA. Giolito has allowed 5 runs in 10.2 innings this season with 18 strikeouts. The 26-year old pitcher has given up homers to Eddie Rosario (2), Jose Ramirez, and Ben Gamel in his career. Cleveland will be hoping that they can channel some of their earlier success to pair with Shane Bieber on the mound.

First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 P.M. at Guaranteed Rate Field.
