Catcher Roberto Perez has been placed on the 10-day injured list by the Cleveland Baseball Club due to a right shoulder injury.
There was some concern for Roberto Perez after Game 1 of Tuesday’s doubleheader. Perez was evaluated for right shoulder soreness and the team proceeded to option Daniel Johnson and call up Beau Taylor. Now Taylor may get some playing time because Perez has been placed on the injured list per Zack Meisel of The Athletic.
Daniel Johnson is also back with the club after being temporarily optioned. This puts Cleveland their full compliment of outfielders to utilize when composing a lineup. Beau Taylor will start Wednesday’s game against the White Sox.
This is a big deal. Perez is head and shoulders above any of the other options Cleveland has at catcher. Additionally, the pitching staff will have to adjust to throwing to someone they may not be used to throwing to. This could impact the effectiveness of the pitching and whether or not they are successful. Cleveland’s pitching staff was comfortable with Perez and now they are forced to make things work with a catcher they do not have the same familiarity with.
