Ricky Rubio out for season with ACL tear

The worst fears have been confirmed as the Cleveland Cavaliers guard will miss the rest of the season.

The moment Ricky Rubio went to the ground and signaled for help it did not look good. Initial speculation was an ACL injury and it was confirmed with an MRI on Wednesday. The 31-year old guard will miss the remainder of the season with an ACL tear.

The injury occurred late in Cleveland’s loss to the Pelicans Tuesday.

Ricky Rubio was having one of the most productive season of his career coming off the bench for the Cavs. Rubio was averaging 13.1 points, 6.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in 34 games this season. The injury to Rubio comes at a time that Darius Garland is in health and safety protocols and without Collin Sexton due to his own season-ending injury. Cleveland will have to figure out a way to configure their backcourt moving forward if they are going to continue to be a presence in the Eastern Conference.
