Through the first six games of the season, Nick Chubb is only 11 yards behind the NFL’s rushing leader.
For as much talk as there is about the Browns struggles offensively, Nick Chubb has easily been forgotten. Chubb is second in the NFL in rushing at this moment in time.
Nick Chubb has 607 yards on 114 attempts with six rushing touchdowns. Only trailing Carolina’s Christian McCaffrey by 11 yards on 13 fewer carries. Chubb is averaging 5.3 yards per carry whole McCaffrey is averaging 4.9. It is easy to think that if given the same amount of carries that Chubb would lead the league and not McCaffrey.
The production from Nick Chubb shouldn’t surprise anyone. Chubb took over last season and was nearly unstoppable. Chubb nearly eclipsed 1,000 yards last season after being buried on the depth chart for nearly half the season. Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson were ahead of Chubb at the beginning of last season, but a midseason trade of Hyde cleared a path for Chubb. Chubb started nine games and averaged 5.2 yards per carry on 192 attempts finishing with 996 yards and eight touchdowns. If Chubb had started the whole season those numbers would be much more impressive.
Nick Chubb has nearly equaled his receiving numbers as well. With 20 receptions for 128 yards, he is only 21 yards behind and two touchdowns behind meeting his total from last year.
Nick Chubb is on pace to surpass these numbers quite easily. As long as he continues to produce, Chubb will have new career-highs across the board and could challenge for the NFL’s rushing title. Chubb is all but guaranteed to surpass his receiving numbers from last season as well. If Chubb is able to get anywhere near the NFL rushing title it could certainly bode well for the Cleveland Browns.
