The Cleveland Monsters had a chance to snap their six game losing streak but fell short in overtime 3-2 to the Charlotte Checkers.
Just about midway through the 3rd period the Cleveland Monsters took the lead and the possible end of their long losing streak came into the realm of possibilities. Unfortunately Charlotte was able to tie the game with just over 5 minutes remaining and then scored 2:45 into overtime handing the Monsters their seventh straight loss.
Cleveland (30) and Charlotte (33) were close in shots on goal yet again. Obviously the Checkers were able to make the most of their opportunities as they came away with the win.
The Monsters failed to convert on any of their five power play opportunities while the Checkers converted on one. That opportunity just happened to be in overtime to hand Cleveland the loss.
Lindsay Sparks scored the first goal of the game to give Cleveland a 1-0 lead in the 2nd period. Brett Gallant and Adam Clendening assisted on the goal.
Finding themselves tied at 1 just over eight minutes into the 3rd period, Trey Fix-Wolansky scored to give the Monsters a 2-1 lead. Sam Vigneault and Marko Dano assisted on the go ahead goal.
Matiss Kivlenieks got his first start in goal since returning to Cleveland. Kivlenieks saved 30 of 33 shots on goal in his first AHL action since early February.
