The Cleveland Browns will be working out linebacker Malcolm Smith as they are in need of linebacker help due to Mack Wilson’s injury.
Linebacker Malcolm Smith will be working out with Cleveland Browns sometime this week according to Mike Garafolo.
Cleveland’s linebacker situation was not great to begin with and the injury to Mack Wilson made things worse. Wilson’s status for this season is currently up in the air and that is a problem for a position group that is thin. The Browns need to find a stopgap solution that may be short term or season long depending on Wilson’s status.
Malcolm Smith has 8 years of NFL experience and he is known for being the MVP of Super Bowl 48 with the Seattle Seahawks. Smith spent four seasons in Seattle before bouncing around from the Raiders, 49ers, Jaguars, and Cowboys. Smith only appeared in 5 games last season and record 5 total tackles. This was a far cry away from just a few seasons prior which saw Smith top 100 combined tackles in back-to-back seasons (122 in 2015, 103 in 2016). If the Browns were to sign Smith he would not expected to provide anything remotely close to those numbers. This would be a depth signing to take pressure of others on the defense.
