Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love is approaching the 12,000 points scored mark which would put him in a very special group.
Entering Tuesday’s game against the Celtics, Kevin Love was only 27 points away from making history. This post from the Cavaliers Twitter account brought that to the attention to fans of the Cavaliers prior to the game.
Unfortunately Kevin Love did not have a good shooting night in the Cavaliers 116-106 loss to the Celtics Tuesday. Love went 3-13 from the field including missing all five of his three-point attempts. While Love made all four of his free throws, he only managed 10 points on the night.
Now Kevin Love is only 17 points from making history. That history being only the eighth NBA player with 12,000 points, 7,000 rebounds and 1,000 made three-pointers. This group includes his former Cavaliers teammate LeBron James and former Cavalier Antawn Jamison. Most of the names listed in this group are Hall of Fame caliber players. In addition to James, there is Dirk Nowitzi, Jason Kidd, Kobe Bryant and Paul Pierce.
The next opportunity for Kevin Love to become a member of this group is Thursday against the San Antonio Spurs. Love is averaging just over 16 points in 23 career games against San Antonio. If Love hits his career average he will come within one point of 12,000. Of course there is the possibility that Love exceeds his career average and makes history Thursday in San Antonio.
As mentioned previously in regards to the milestones made by Collin Sexton and Jordan Clarkson, this is just another milestone for a Cavaliers player in a lost season. This is a much more significant achievement than the milestones accomplished by Collin Sexton and Jordan Clarkson. The difference being NBA history versus Cleveland Cavaliers history.
