The Cleveland Browns have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with former Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills cornerback Kevin Johnson.
It’s another one-year deal for the Browns defense. Cleveland is signing former Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills cornerback Kevin Johnson to a one-year deal.
As Adam Schefter reported, the deal is heavy on incentives. The contract could end up being worth $6 million if Kevin Johnson performs well in Cleveland.
The Browns keep adding one-year deals to their defense. While they provide roster flexibility, it will inevitably lead to massive roster turnover next season. At some point the Browns need to sign a defensive player to a deal longer than one year.
Johnson spent last season in Buffalo after playing four seasons in Houston to start his career. Johnson only has one interception and 19 pass defenses in 51 career games. Like Karl Joseph, Johnson has missed some time due to injuries in his career. Johnson has only played more than 12 games twice while playing six games or fewer twice. Betting on guys who have trouble staying healthy is not necessarily the best way to address a defense that desperately needs help. They need players who have shown they can stay on the field and contribute consistently and that has not been Johnson up to this point in his career.
