Kareem Hunt “everything is cool”

The Cleveland Browns running back has commented not receiving a contract extension or trade request fulfillment from earlier this offseason.

In search of some long term job security and/or an opportunity to start elsewhere, Kareem Hunt requested a trade. This was after not receiving a contract extension from the Browns. When asked about it Friday Hunt replied with “everything is cool”, later adding “it is what it is”. Hunt even sat out drills during camp during following his trade request before eventually returning.

From Hunt’s standpoint it is more than understandable. Hunt has shown his ability as a prolific running back, leading the NFL in rushing as a rookie. Kareem Hunt has been relegated to a part-time role behind Nick Chubb since coming home to Cleveland. Overall it is not a bad gig as he provides a different style of running compared to Chubb. Injuries Last year Hunt missed time due to injury for the first time in his career, appearing in just eight games while compiling 386 rushing yards with five rushing touchdowns. This is in addition to 22 receptions for 174 yards and being held without a receiving touchdown for the first time in his career.

Now that Cleveland has overhauled their quarterback room with Jacoby Brissett filling in for Deshaun Watson, it should provide a great opportunity for Kareem Hunt to rebuild his value. The Browns are going to need to lean on Hunt and Chubb this season in order to stay competitive and win games. This could result in a new deal for Hunt in Cleveland (unlikely) or elsewhere (more likely) at season’s end. That is if Hunt remains with the team for the entire season. Until the deadline passes expect many hypothetical trades which see Hunt on a new team for nothing of value.
