The Cleveland Baseball Club third baseman finished in 2nd place in voting for the American League Most Valuable Player Award.
Jose Ramirez is going to have wait at least one more season before winning an MVP. The Cleveland Baseball Club third baseman finished in 2nd place behind winner Jose Abreu for the 2020 AL MVP. This was the third finish in the Top 3 for Ramirez, the most of anyone during that timeframe.
Jose Ramirez finished the 2020 campaign with a .292/.386/.607 slash line with an OPS of .993. In 58 games Ramirez had 17 home runs, 16 doubles, and 1 triple, he even led the American League with 45 runs scored. The eight-year veteran led all players in Fangraphs WAR (3.4) while Baseball Reference had his WAR at a lower number (2.2).
It certainly seems like Jose Ramirez could come away with an AL MVP eventually. Ramirez is an absolutely dynamic player, proving he can carry an offense when called upon. While many focus on the accomplishments of Francisco Lindor, it is Jose Ramirez who is the better player between the two. Perhaps when Lindor is dealt Ramirez will get the recognition and praise he rightly deserves.
