Cleveland Indians All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez exited Sunday’s Spring Training game against the Chicago White Sox with an injury.
This spring nearly became disastrous. Jose Ramirez exited Sunday’s Spring Training game after fouling a pitch off his leg. Ramirez had difficulty standing and had to be helped to a cart to leave the field.
Things did not look good and panic ensued for Indians fans everywhere. The potential of losing Jose Ramirez in addition to Francisco Lindor and Jason Kipnis would have Cleveland really hurting offensively. Lindor and Kipnis should return soon, but the prospect of losing Ramirez now to a potentially serious injury would have seriously impacted the Tribe’s season.
The following was a quick reaction to the injury suffered by Ramirez.
It turns out that this reaction was correct.
The Indians Twitter account posted the following in regards to the injury.
Shortly after MLB.com’s Mandy Bell Tweeted the following from Terry Francona and what the plan is at this time.
In addition to this Francona had a bit of a lighthearted moment.
Apparently Dr. Carlos Santana is quite accurate. Jose Ramirez is OK and that is what matters here.
While Jose Ramirez may not be ready on Opening Day, the important thing to take from this is that the injury is not serious. Ramirez may miss the first game or two, but should be fine for overwhelming majority of the season.
The longterm health of Jose Ramirez will be crucial to the success of the Cleveland Indians this season. At this moment there appears to be a lack of depth in the infield. There is a distinct difference between featuring Ramirez, Lindor and Kipnis in the infield when compared to Max Moroff, Brad Miller and Eric Stamets. The Tribe will be counting on the first three names listed here rather than the following three names.
