Jordan Luplow hit a walk off homer in the 9th inning propeling the Cleveland Baseball Club to their second staright walk-off win.
Make that two consecutive walk-off wins for the Cleveland Baseball Club over the Chicago White Sox. With 1 out in the inning Jordan Luplow came to the plate and hit a 3-0 pitch over the left field wall. The walk-off homer was the only hit of the game for Jordan Luplow and he made it count. This was the second home run of the season for Luplow as the 2020 campaign has been a bit of struggle. It is certainly possible that this walk-off home run will turn things around for Luplow as the playoffs are right about to begin. At least that is what Cleveland is hoping for.
Cleveland’s offense got started in the bottom of the 2nd with a Carlos Santana solo homer. Chicago would tie the game in the 4th inning, Edwin Encarnacion drove in Jose Abreu with an RBI groundout.
Franmil Reyes was up in the 6th inning and drove in Jose Ramirez with a sacrifice fly to temporarily break the tie. This was the final run scored by Cleveland until the walk-off homer from Jordan Luplow.
Shane Bieber started the game for Cleveland and it was a regular Shane Bieber-esque performance. Bieber allowed 1 run on 2 hits and 3 walks with 10 strikeouts. It was the 3 walks that ended Bieber’s night prematurely as he needed 98 pitches to get through 5 innings.
Triston McKenzie came out of the bullpen and was solid in his 2 innings of work. McKenzie struck out 3 batters and allowed 1 hit and was impressive following the future American League Cy Young Award winner.
James Karinchak came on in the 8th and allowed 1 run on 1 hit and struck out 2 batters. Jose Abreu drove in Yoan Moncada with sacrifice fly after he tripled in his at-bat.
Brad Hand came on in the 9th in a non-save situation and delivered. Hand did not allow a base runner and struck out 1 batter to work a clean inning. This set Jordan Luplow up to win the game for Cleveland in the bottom half of the inning.
