JC Tretter extension is now crucial

An extension for Cleveland Browns center JC Tretter now seems very important since the plug has been pulled on the Austin Corbett experiment.

The Cleveland Browns now have a bit more clarity on the future of their offensive line. The trade of Austin Corbett to the Rams Tuesday takes one player out of the equation and things appear more straight forward. No longer are there moving parts on the line and potential options if things work out right. John Dorsey and Co. know who is on their team and who is in need of an extension. JC Tretter is in need of an extension.

The story with the Browns this season has been the offensive line. They have been abysmal. Well, outside of Joel Bitonio and JC Tretter. Bitonio and Tretter have been excellent while everyone else have played at a level that is very much replaceable. This should signal that keeping Bitonio and Tretter under contract for the immediate future is a must. Bitonio already has a nice contract. Now is the time for Tretter.

Tretter is due to become a free agent after the season. His status was questionable heading into this season, but that mostly because of the moving parts on the line. Now that is abundantly clear that the only option on the roster currently is JC Tretter, a contract extension appears to be a must.

Looking at the free agents available after the season, the options are not necessarily better than Tretter. There is also the option of drafting a center, but John Dorsey’s track record with drafting lineman is not all that good. Extending JC Tretter appears to be the best option as things stand currently.
