Jamie Gillan named Browns punter

The Cleveland Browns have decided to have a new face at punter this season, going with Jamie Gillan aka “The Scottish Hammer”

The Cleveland browns have a new punter. Jamie Gillan better known as “The Scottish Hammer” will be taking over duties on fourth down. Gillan was given the job over Britton Colquitt. Colquitt is now a free agent after the Browns were unable to facilitate a trade. Colquitt had been the Browns punter for three seasons.

Jamie Gillman was signed by the Browns after going undrafted in this past draft. Gillman spent four years at Arkansas-Pine Bluff as their punter.

Gillan has some big shoes to fill. Colquitt is widely considered one of the best punters in the NFL. Colquitt’s ability to pin opponents inside their own 20 is an asset to any team.  Gillan will have to do his best to try and replicate Colquitt in this regard.

“The Scottish Hammer” is more known for his ability to kick it deep rather than into the coffin corner.

While kicking the ball extremely is great in its own right, accuracy is just as important. Considering the Browns offense will not be as anemic as in previous years, shorter accurate punts will be crucial to the outcome of the game.

Jamie Gillan will certainly be an intriguing figure on the 2019 Cleveland Browns. He’s already a fan favorite without appearing in an actual game. It’s only a matter of time before a local t-shirt company creates a “Scottish Hammer” shirt. An item that is sure to fly off the shelves.
