The Cleveland Browns are reportedly interested in Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Jack Conklin.
Offensive line is a clear area of need for the Cleveland Browns. The upcoming draft is certainly avenue to address the position, but free agency is another. According to ESPN’s Jake Trotter, Cleveland has interest in Tennessee Titans right tackle Jack Conklin.
As Trotter mentions, Cleveland just cleared some cap room with some roster moves made this week and more could be on the way. That could go a long way in regards to upgrading the roster as Jack Conklin will not come cheap. Conklin is a highly regarded right tackle and will command a large salary in free agency.
Now, Conklin is not the left tackle so many seek. Good news! Cleveland has the 10th overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft and can select one there. Hypothetically Cleveland could draft two in April’s draft, but having two rookie starters at the tackle position is not a great idea for a team that believes they are ready to compete. If this was a few years ago sure give it a shot and see what happens, but the team feels like they are ready to make a leap and in order to do that you have to spend money.
What Cleveland needs is stability on their offensive line. As it stands now they have two clear cut starters (Joel Bitonio, J.C. Tretter) and someone who qualifies as a maybe in Wyatt Teller. Getting a veteran for one of their two vacant tackle positions and drafting another in the draft is a great way to address the roster.
