Indians unable to continue win streak

The Cleveland Indians were unable to continue thier winning streak as they lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 10-7.

After taking both split-squad games Wednesday, the Cleveland Indians lost Thursday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. This is the second-time in a week that Cleveland surrendered 10+ runs to Arizona. There is another common theme, the starting pitcher was Chih-Wei Hu.

Hu pitched considerably worse Thursday, giving up five runs in just one third of an inning. This is worse than his last start against Arizona where Hu gave up three runs in two innings. While the Indians eventually took the lead later in the game, Hu struggled yet again and it seems doubtful he will make the team out of Spring Training. Cleveland did score three runs in the top of the first inning, but Hu’s rough outing saw that lead evaporate rather quickly.

The Indians offense saw some production out of some of their regular starters. Greg Allen went 2-2 and scored two runs. Jose Ramirez went 2-3 and drove in three runs. Ramirez put Cleveland ahead in the fourth inning with a three-run homer. Kevin Plawecki went 2-3 with two RBIs. The newly acquired catcher has put together a fairly impressive spring thus far, hitting at a .333 clip.

Dalbert Siri got the loss as he gave up one run in two-thirds of an inning which gave Arizona the lead for good. Brooks Pounders and Jean Carlos Mejia followed Siri and each pitched a scoreless inning. Pounders struck out three while Mejia struck out one. Shao-Ching Chiang pitched the bottom of the eighth and gave up two more runs to bring Arizona’s total to 10 on the day.

The Indians are now 2-3-1 in Spring Training and will look to turn things around Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers at 8:05 P.M.
