The Cleveland Indians continue their home stand and begin play for The Ohio Cup as they take on the Cincinnati Reds in a short two game series.
Fresh off two consecutive series wins the Cleveland Indians are looking for a third. The Cincinnati Reds come to town as they battle for The Ohio Cup. It is a short two game series that will be over by Wednesday afternoon.
The Tribe will send Trevor Bauer and Zach Plesac to the mound. Bauer will look to buck the trend of rough starts he seems to be stuck in. A mix of fielding errors and pitching performances that are not up to par are to blame for Bauer’s struggles. Over his last five games an average of five runs have come across to score with Bauer on the mound. Although six of those runs are unearned. Plesac has been fantastic through his first three career starts and continue that run Wednesday. Plesac owns a 1.86 ERA in 19.1 innings with 14 strikeouts. Cleveland will need Plesac to pitch well yet again in order to come away with a victory.
The Reds will have the duo of Luis Castillo and Anthony DeSclafani face the Indians. Castillo has been one of the better pitchers in all of baseball this season and is a legitimate Cy Young candidate in the National League. Castillo has only allowed more than two runs once in his last five starts. Cleveland will have their work cut out for them as their offense has struggled to put sufficient runs on the board quite frequently. Cleveland’s opportunity to light up the scoreboard will come in the second game of the series. DeSclafani is prone to giving up the long ball quite often, he has given up the fourth-most home runs in the National League. The Indians will need to take advantage of this in order to come out victorious.
