A 14-hit effort from the Cleveland Indians propelled the team past the Los Angeles Dodgers by a score of 8-4 Friday night.
The Cleveland Indians were able to get another win in Arizona Friday, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-4 in Goodyear.
Los Angeles got on the scoreboard first, scoring two runs in the top of the second. Part of this was due to a throwing error by Indians shortstop Yu Chang. What should have been an inning-ending double play turned into another chance for the Dodgers. A triple from Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux drove in the second run. Both runs could have been avoided with a better throw from Chang.
Luckily for the Indians they were unscathed from an uninspiring defensive effort in the field. Cleveland was able to score four runs in the bottom of the second. Carlos Santana drove in Ernie Clement and scored later on a Roberto Perez single. Tyler Naquin and Daniel Johnson also scored. Johnson came in as a pinch-runner for Jose Ramirez who was hit on the right foot with a pitch. The removal of Ramirez is purely cautionary and it does not appear to be a serious injury.
Yu Chang committed another error in the top of the fourth, but no runs came across to score this time. In the bottom half of the inning Chang hit an absolute rocket to deep center field to make it 5-2 Cleveland. Brandon Barnes would follow with a solo home run of his own in the bottom of the fifth. Both teams would score two more times before the game ended making the final score 8-4.
Brad Hand, Dan Otero and Adam Cimber all pitched admirably, combining for three innings, two hits and three strikeouts. This is a good sign for the Indians bullpen moving forward.
The Indians face the Athletics Saturday at 3:05 P.M.
