The Cleveland Indians defeated the Colorado Rockies by a score of 7-1 during their Spring Training game in Arizona Saturday.
The Cleveland Indians bounced back from being shutout Friday by defeating the Colorado Rockies 7-1 Saturday. The team collected 10 hits and only allowed five in the victory.
Matt Joyce led the way, going 2-3 on the day and knocked in the first run of the day. Joyce has endured a rough spring but this may be a turnaround for him.
Trayce Thompson tripled in the sixth inning which drove in two runs. Daniel Johnson came in to pinch run for Thompson and scored on an Ryan Flaherty single. The Indians would add two more runs in the inning off a Nellie Rodriguez. The final run of the day came off of an Eric Stamets triple which scored Daniel Johnson.
Shane Bieber started the game and got the win. Bieber went four innings, allowed one hit and struck out four batters. Oliver Perez would follow Bieber and did not allow a hit in his only inning of work.
Tyler Clippard pitched two thirds of an inning but would leave with pectoral tightness before he could finish the inning. James Karinchak relieved Clippard and finished the inning. Jon Edwards pitched the seventh inning and allowed one hit and struck out one batter.
Brooks Pounders came on to pitch the eighth inning and allowed the Rockies only run of the day. Pounders would allow one hit and strike out one batter on the day. A.J. Cole pitcher the ninth inning and allowed one hit and struck out one to end the game.
Cleveland has won four of their past five games in Arizona and are looking to be heading in the right direction as the regular season approaches. The Indians will take on the Seattle Mariners at 4:10 P.M. Sunday.
