The Cleveland Indians season is on the line. A series win could do wonders for their postseason chances while a series loss could end them.
The Cleveland Indians did what they had to do. Sweep the Angels. Now they have a much more difficult task. Win the upcoming series at home against the Minnesota Twins.
So far this season the Tribe are 9-7 against the Twins. Just one win secures the season series against their division rivals. But the Indians need more than that. They need to at worst win the series. A sweep would be even better. Entering Thursday the Indians are four games back in the division and half a game back in the Wild Card race. A series win would not only close the gap in the division, but potentially put them back in the drivers seat for a Wild Card spot.
Cleveland seems to be clicking at the right time as Minnesota seems to be experiencing some adversity. Cleveland is 7-3 in their last 10 games while Minnesota is 6-4. Not a huge difference but it is an advantage for the Tribe. Minnesota will be without Michael Pineda due to another PED suspension and Byron Buxton is now out for the year. Meanwhile the Indians are playing well without Jose Ramirez and Corey Kluber. Cleveland has outscored their opponents 57-36 over their past 10 games. This includes a three game stretch that saw Cleveland score 14 runs compared to Minnesota’s nine just this past weekend.
This is a huge series for the Indians. Win it and a run to the postseason seems even more attainable. Lose it and it could be the final blow in what has been a trying season.
