Another rough showing at the plate for the Cleveland Indians as they lost their third consecutive game, an 8-0 loss to the Padres.
After the Indians failed to score a run on four hits Sunday, they followed that up with another lackluster performance Monday. Cleveland managed six hits and was shutout for the second times in three games. This being an 8-0 loss to the San Diego Padres.
Regular starters Jose Ramirez and Greg Allen went a combined 3-5 on the day. Ryan Flaherty who may just be working himself into a utility also got a hit in two at-bats. Jordan Luplow, Kevin Plawecki, Tyler Naquin and Jake Bauers were all hitless on the day. Monday also saw the debut of Hanley Ramirez in an Indians uniform. Hanley Ramirez went 0-3 in his first game for the Tribe.
Indians replacements players were not any better on the day
Daniel Johnson got another hit in his impressive spring. Johnson has been quite the surprise for Cleveland after coming over in the Yan Gomes trade. Johnson is batting .250 this spring and is more than capable or bringing that average up as the spring progresses.
Yu Chang, Bobby Bradley, Tim Fedorowicz, Mike Papi, Oscar Mercado and Ernie Clement all went 0-1 Monday.
Indians pitchers were up and down
Shane Bieber started the game and went three innings. Bieber allowed one run on two hits and struck out four batters. Bieber is picking up where he left off last season and should be an excellent fifth starter for Cleveland.
Dan Otero came in for Bieber pitched one inning and allowed one run on one hit. This is just a run of the mill appearance for Otero. There are times when he limits the opposing offense and others where he surrenders several runs.
Adam Cimber has continued his impressive spring, keeping his ERA at a perfect 0.00. Cimber pitched one inning and allowed one hit. Although a run did score due to an error.
Justin Grimm pitched later in the game and struck out three in his only inning of work. Henry Martinez also worked a scoreless inning where he struck out one batter.
Jefry Rodriguez had a rough outing. In just one third of an inning Rodriguez allowed four runs on one and only struck out one batter. Rodriguez also walked three batters in the contest.
Rob Kaminsky was given the unenviable task of cleaning up the mess left by Rodriguez and did his best to limit damage. Kaminsky allowed one run on one hit allowed and struck out two batters in two thirds of an inning. Three runs came in to score with Kaminsky on the mound, but those are credited to Rodriguez and not Kaminsky.
The Indians will definitely need to score some runs and soon. Being shutout in back-to-back games is not a good look. That can change in their next game as they take on the Chicago White Sox at 3:05 P.M.
