The Cleveland Guardians are now in the driver’s seat when it comes to the American League Central.
It took a couple of tries Tuesday night, but the Cleveland Guardians clinched the tiebreaker against the Chicago White Sox. After coming back to tie the game late, Cleveland did take the lead in the 10th inning. Unfortunately the White Sox continued to fight, forcing another round of Mickey Mouse extra-innings. This time Cleveland made sure to put Chicago away, scoring five times in the 11th, more than enough keep the White Sox at bay.
The Guardians are now 81-67 on the season with a five game lead on the White Sox (76-72). With the tiebreaker in hand the division title is within grasp. If somehow Cleveland ends up tied with the White Sox (increasingly unlikely) or Minnesota (not quite winning the lottery chances, but close enough) they have the advantage. As long as the Guardiac Kids keep on taking care of business there will be postseason baseball in Cleveland.
