Greedy Williams “to be out a little while”

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski provided an update on the fourth-year cornerback.

While Kevin Stefanski was discussing the availability of injured players for their Week 1 matchup an update was provided on cornerback Greedy Williams and it was not good. In addition to Williams being designated as “out”, Stefanski added that he will “be out for a little while”. Not a good sign for a Browns secondary that needs everyone available to them in order to be able to play at an adequate level. Martin Emerson will fill in during Williams’ absence.

Multiple game injuries are not new when it comes to Greedy Williams as he missed all of 2020 due to a shoulder injury. While missing more than a single game with a hamstring injury is appropriate for a skill position player, it does not help Williams avoid the tag of injury prone. At the end of the day it comes down to availability and Williams has missed 21 of a possible 49 games with injuries, soon to be 22 of 50 (and more). When looking at the big picture if the Browns decide to move on from Williams at the end of the year it would be hardly surprising.

UPDATE

The Browns have placed Greedy Williams on injured reserve.

Willams will be eligible to return after four games should he be ready. In the meantime the Browns have signed cornerback Herb Miller to the active roster from the practice squad.
