The Cleveland Baseball Club designated hitter will be joining the Columbus Clippers on a rehab assignment beginning this week.
Franmil Reyes has not played since May 22nd due to an oblique injury, but his time away from the team appears to nearing an end. Reyes will begin a rehab assignment with the Columbus Clippers this week as he works his way back to the big league club.
Reyes will get three at-bats Tuesday for Columbus and will be re-evaluated following their road trip according to Zack Meisel.
Without Franmil Reyes in the lineup Cleveland has been up and down offensively. There have been some surprising contributions from Harold Ramirez and Bobby Bradley to help keep the offense afloat. Bringing Reyes back into the mix could make a huge difference for a team that still is making things work overall, although it is not always pretty.
Franmil Reyes is slashing .257/.316/.576/ with an OPS of .893 prior to his injury. Reyes has 11 home runs, nine doubles, two triples, and 29 RBI in 40 games this season, the exact type of production this team needs while they are still chasing the division leading Chicago White Sox.
