Four members of the Cleveland Cavaliers have returned to the practice facility after the NBA allowed voluntary workouts to be held.
Larry Nance Jr., Kevin Love, Cedi Osman, and Ante Zizic made an appearance at the Cleveland Cavaliers practice facility Friday. Marc Stein of The New York Times spoke with Nance afterwards.
Stein mentions that there were extensive procedures in place to maintain safety while players returned. Keeping the players safe while conducting workouts will not be easy. There are a large amount of variables that can impact and ultimately compromise the safety measures that are put in place.
The workouts are voluntary so players do not have to attend. Some players may not feel comfortable returning at this time and that is completely understandable. NBA players are concerned about their health during this time and sitting out voluntary practices should not be a cause for criticism.
Stein also notes that the Cavaliers policy was not to discuss who comes to their workouts.
Nance’s presence was expected. The appearances of Love, Osman, and Zizic was not reported ahead of time. Joe Vardon (who Stein quote tweets) also says that “there were likely others”. That is certainly possible considering the Cavs policy.
Teams returning to practice facilities provides some hope of a resumed season. An article appearing on Bleacher Report goes into detail about a proposed plan regarding a return to playing basketball. The NBA could certainly return, but in a scenario that seems to have a ton of factors beyond their control. If the NBA could somehow find a way to make things work that would go a long way towards making everything seem normal.
If the NBA decides on a Bio-Dome situation (Pauly Shore and Stephen Baldwin should be part of this) that would bring out some 90’s nostalgia many will appreciate.
