Emmanuel Ogbah on the move?

After acquiring pass rusher Olivier Vernon from the New York Giants are the Cleveland Browns looking to trade Emmanuel Ogbah?

Emmanuel Ogbah and the Cleveland Browns may not be long for each other. The acquisition of Olivier Vernon from the New York Giants certainly brings doubt to Ogbah’s longterm future in Cleveland.

While there is no such things as too many pass rushers, Cleveland has found themselves in a predicament. Prior to the trade for Vernon most assumed that Emmanuel Ogbah would be the starting defensive end opposite Myles Garrett. Now with Vernon in the mix Ogbah would be relegated to a reserve/rotational role if he remains in Cleveland.

Considering that Emmanuel Ogbah came up in trade rumors over the past week it appears that John Dorsey is looking to move the three year veteran from Oklahoma State. This is a bit of a “not my guy” move. A previous regime selected Ogbah and Dorsey may be looking to get value for Ogbah while fixing a problem elsewhere on the roster. That could be the reason for the acquisition of Vernon. Vernon presence makes Ogbah expendable and he can be used as a trade chip to upgrade the linebacker position.

There is also the factor of Emmanuel Ogbah’s contract. Ogbah’s contract is up at the end of the year. Cleveland may be looking to add someone who is under control for longer. Pass rushers are always in demand and Cleveland should have no problem trading Ogbah if they do intend to.

While Emmanuel Ogbah initially showed promise as a rookie, injuries and inconsistent play may have led to an imminent departure from Cleveland. The Browns are going for it now and if trading from a position of strength means addressing an area of weakness leads to a winning season there will not be many complaints on the shores of Lake Erie.
