Domingo Santana to the Tribe?

A report out of the Dominican Republic states that the Cleveland Indians have agreed to a deal with free agent outfielder Domingo Santana.

The Cleveland Indians have another outfield to add to the mix per a report out of the Dominican Republic. According to this report, Domingo Santana has agreed to a one-year deal with the Tribe.

Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com has also reported the deal, although Yancen Pujols had it a day earlier.

Santana has been up and down performance-wise over the past few seasons. 2017 was an impressive campaign while with the Brewers, slashing .278/.371/.505 with an OPS of .875 with 30 home runs, 29 doubles, and 85 runs driven in. A lackluster 2018 saw Santana’s power numbers plummet with only 14 doubles and 5 home runs. Surprisingly his numbers improved upon moving to Seattle in 2019, finishing with 20 doubles and 21 home runs. Although his 2019 season was cut short due to an elbow injury.

The addition of Domingo Santana is an intriguing one. Cleveland now has another option in their outfield and may not have to rely on Franmil Reyes to play in the field on a regular basis. While that possibly still exists, it is not a make or break scenario if he is unable to do so. Santana is not a great defender and is probably a DH candidate, it does give the Indians another option at their disposal.

Domingo Santana may be able to provide the still unsettled Indians outfield with a little more stability. That is if they get the 2017 and 2019 versions and not the 2018 edition. The last thing they need is another outfielder who is uninspiring at the plate.
