The Cleveland Baseball Club was unable to extend their winning streak to seven as they allowed 10 straight runs in their loss to Detroit.
It was going to happen eventually, the Cleveland Baseball Club lost to the Detroit Tigers for the first time since April 10, 2019. Cleveland got out ahead scoring 5 runs in the first three innings and things seemed to be looking good early. Franmil Reyes capped off an impressive early offensive push by Cleveland with a two-run homer off of Michael Fulmer.
The 5-0 deficit lead Detroit to turn to their bullpen which kept them in the game. Cleveland’s offense only managed 5 hits and 3 walks but they were unable to score against any of the Tigers relievers.
The inability to score again came back to bite Cleveland. Adam Plutko got lit up when it was time to go through the order the second time. Plutko allowed 7 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks in just 3.1 innings, the big blow being a Issac Paredes grand slam which gave Detroit a 7-5 lead.
Dominic Leone came in for the 7th inning and Detroit teed off on him. Leone allowed 3 runs on 4 hits in his lone inning of work.
Even though Cleveland’s offense got the early start it was the combination of bad pitching and offensive struggles late in the game which led to the loss.
