Cleveland signs catcher Wilson Ramos

The Cleveland Baseball Club has signed the veteran catcher, assigning him to Triple-A Columbus.

The Cleveland Baseball Club did not play a game on Tuesday, but that did not prevent them from being active off the field. The club signed free agnet catcher Wilson Ramos and assigned the veteran to Triple-A Columbus.

Wilson Ramos appeared in 35 games for the Detroit Tigers this season, posting some of the worst numbers of his career during that span. Ramos‘ slash line of .200/.238/.392 and an OPS of .630 are all worse than his career averages of .271/.319/.432/.751.

Looking at Cleveland’s roster this may be a precursor to trading one of their current catchers on the roster. Austin Hedges has one more year of arbitration after the 2021 season while Roberto Perez has a club option of $7 million for the 2022 season. Cleveland is currently paying just under $9 million between the two this season and with their sub-par offensive output it could be justified moving one catcher prior to the trade deadline.
