These moves appear to have been made out of necessity.
The Cleveland Baseball Club found themselves in a situation where they needed more pitching and needed to send a player down to recalibrate in the minor leagues. That is the roundabout way of saying that Owen Miller has been option to Triple-A and Eli Morgan has been recalled.
The recall of Morgan comes shortly after Shane Bieber landed on the injured list with a right shoulder injury and a once pitching rich team is now desperate for arms. Morgan previously pitched with the club this season, allowing six runs in just 2.2 innings. Unfortunately Cleveland can’t afford to picky at the moment and really just need arms.
As far as Miller is concerned, this is a case of a guy simply not being able to find his feet. A mixture of being a bit overmatched at the plate combined with constant pitching changes made things quite difficult. Perhaps some time in the minors to readjust could lead to better results next time. A longer opportunity could present itself for Miller should things go south for Cleveland in the upcoming weeks.
