The Cleveland Indians unveiled their new uniforms for the upcoming season. The most notable change is the absence of Chief Wahoo.
For the first time in over 70 years the Cleveland Indians are without Chief Wahoo. Chief Wahoo was prominent on the sleeve of the jersey. The logo for the All-Star Game now resides on the sleeve and replaces the controversial logo.
Besides the removal of Chief Wahoo the main home and away uniforms are basically the same. At home Cleveland will continue to wear the traditional white jersey with script Indians on the front. The road uniforms are gray with Cleveland across the chest. The only overall change is that the hat now will only be the “Block C”.
The Cleveland Indians new alternate uniforms
The alternate away uniform is blue with the same font as the main away uniform. Essentially the word Indians was replaced with Cleveland for the away alternate.
The most notable change is the home alternate uniform. A bright red jersey will now be worn at home with Indians appearing in script across the front. It appears that rather than have duplicate alternate uniforms that the club chose to differentiate between the two.
The home alternate brings a fresh look to the relatively traditional uniforms of the past. For a long time the Tribe have gone with only white, gray and blue uniforms. The red jersey adds a new color to the rotation that Cleveland will use this season.
Additionally it appears a hat featuring the “Block C” with a red bill will be paired with the red jersey. This style of hat is similar to the hat that previously featured Chief Wahoo.
All in all the home uniforms are fantastic. The look of the traditional white and alternate red jersey’s are excellent. The road uniforms are not as imaginative. The traditional gray is fine but the near carbon copy with a blue jersey and red lettering is a bit boring. It would be nice to see a little more creativity in regards to the away alternate, but for now this will have to do,
