Cleveland drops first game in Kansas City 6-4

Despite jumping on Brady Singer in the 1st inning and building a 3-0 lead, the Cleveland Baseball Club lost to the Kansas City Royals 6-4.

Early in the game it appeared that the Cleveland Baseball Club was going to pile on the Kansas City Royals. Brady Singer allowed three singles and a walk to the first four batters of the game, including a Franmil Reyes two-RBI double. Signer did induce a Harold Ramirez double play which allowed third run to score in the inning before exiting the game. The problem is that Ervin Santana came into the game and kept Cleveland off the scoreboard in his three innings of work.

The Royals answered back in the bottom of the 1st with Andre Benintendi hitting a two-run homer to draw within one. Carlos Santana would drive in the tying run in the 4th with a sacrifice fly. Kansas City took the lead in the 6th with Salvador Perez hitting his 47th home run of the season. All four of these runs came with Aaron Civale on the mound. In addition to the four runs allowed, Civale allowed four hits and one walk with three strikeouts. The two long balls did most of the damage with Civale on the mound, accounting for three of the four runs charged to the Cleveland starter.

A Yu Chang RBI double in the 8th saw Cleveland tie the game at 4. Unfortunately the game was not tied for long as the Royals answered in the bottom of the inning. Blake Parker allowed a one out single to Whit Merrifield before being relieved by Bryan Shaw. Shaw would immediately allow a  tie breaking RBI triple to Nicky Lopez in a full count. Lopez would later score on a wild pitch extending the Royals lead to two.

With the loss Cleveland is one game away from finishing no better than .500 on the year as they now have 80 losses on the season. Cleveland has two more games in Kansas City before heading to Texas for a three game set
