The Cleveland Cavaliers have had trade discussions with the Warriors about a deal that would send the 12-year veteran to Golden State.
This is sort of awkward. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors have reportedly had trade discussions in regards to Kevin Love. The hypothetical deal would send Love to Golden State and Draymond Green to a yet to be named third team. Cleveland and Golden State engaging in trade talks is weird considering just a few years ago they were bitter rivals, funny how things change.
This deal would help Cleveland get rid some of salary as Love is scheduled to make just over $31 million the next two seasons and just under $30 in 2022-23. Golden State would get a boost offensively, but it would be at the expense of their defense. Draymond Green is the reason why their defense works and he plays an important role offensively as well. Green is a player who can contribute when left open and has excellent passing skills. Love is a more rounded out offensive player, but his defense is nowhere near the level of Green’s.
Whether a deal between the two clubs comes to fruition remains to be seen. Just a few days ago it was rumored that there was not a market for Kevin Love. If the Cavs were to deal Love it would open up on a spot on their roster which gives them more flexibility in the upcoming draft. Obi Toppin would be an interesting option for Cleveland if Love is no longer on the roster and that is an option that is worth consideration.
