Cavaliers fall to Wizards at home

The Cleveland Cavaliers were unable to get back into the win column, losing to the Wasington Wizards by a score of 124-112.

When looking at the final box score the stats can be deceiving. The discrepancy between shooting percentages is just under 10%, but there were times when Washington was seemingly making everything and Cleveland simply wasn’t. The Cavaliers only made 36% of their shots in the 1st quarter and somehow only trailed by five.

Washington went on a run that went into the 2nd quarter which was quite alarming.

The Cavaliers defense was non-existent and their offense was unable to consistently make their shots. Again, somehow they only trailed by seven.

The Wizards extended their lead in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Cavs 32-25. The second half has not been kind to the Cavs this season. It is usually when the opposing team takes an insurmountable lead or makes whatever lead that Cleveland has disappear.

The 4th quarter was essentially a wash, Cleveland outscored Washington by two points, but they were down by so much it really didn’t matter.

Kevin Love, Collin Sexton, and Larry Nance Jr. lead Cavs scoring effort

Collin Sexton was surprisingly efficient from the field (10-15 FG, 2-2 3PT) and made both of his free throw attempts, finishing with 29 points total. This is encouraging to see from the second-year guard as he has been inefficient all season long. Hopefully this is a trend that will continue as Cleveland really needs Collin Sexton to perform better than he has this season.

Kevin Love scored 29 points but was far from efficient. Love only three of his nine three-point attempts, but did manage to go 5-10 from two. Love rounded out his performance with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Larry Nance Jr had quite a performance coming off the bench, scoring 22 points on 10-14 shooting and making two three-pointers. Nance had a game-high 12 rebounds and finished with three assists.

The Cleveland Cavaliers will look to bounce back on Saturday as they host the Bulls at home.
