The Cleveland Cavaliers were able to win their second straight game after the All-Star break, defeating the Memphis Grizzlies 112-107.
Make that two straight wins for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Cleveland was able to overcome a feisty effort from the Memphis Grizzlies Saturday and came out victorious by a score 112-107.
The Cavaliers got out to an early lead in the first quarter. Outscoring Memphis 37-24. Memphis was able to cut the lead down to seven entering halftime. Cleveland faltered a bit offensively and Memphis took advantage.
After halftime Memphis continued their excellent play and took the lead from the Cavaliers. Cleveland was only able to manage 19 points out of the half and a win appeared to slipping through their fingers.
Cleveland performed much better in the final quarter as they were able to outscore Memphis 30-23. The Grizzlies tried their best to keep it competitive late, but were unable to score when it mattered most.
Cleveland had the advantage when it came to assists (25), rebounds (52), three-pointers made (16) and fast break points (13).
Kevin Love was the star of the game. Scoring 32 points on 9-15 from the field. This includes making six of nine three-attempts. Love actually made more three-pointers than the entire Grizzlies team combined. Love was also able to corral 12 rebounds in the contest.
Collin Sexton was also able to put together quite the impressive effort. Sexton chipped in 20 points on 8-16 shooting overall. Four of Sexton’s made field goals were of the three-point variety. Sexton was also to add six rebounds and five assists to his final stat line.
Ante Zizic made six of seven field goal attempts and scored 12 points in the contest. Zizic also made an impact on the glass, grabbing seven rebounds.
Cavaliers notes
This is the second consecutive victory for the Cleveland Cavaliers after defeating the Phoenix Suns Thursday. With the victory Cleveland still has the third-worst record in the NBA and is still in the mix for the top pick in the draft.
