Guardians drop two of three in Minnesota

The Cleveland Guardians found out things were not so nice when they travelled to Minnesota to take on the Twins. Cleveland found themselves facing adversity before they even made it to the Twin Cities with their series finale against the White Sox being postponed due to COVID-19. Seven coaches entered health and safety protocols and Josh Naylor was placed on the COVID-19 IL with the team recalling Richie Palacios to fill his roster spot. This series was going to be a challenge for the Guardians as the Twins are the current division leader, adding in the organizational shuffle on top top that just made it a bit more difficult. It was an offensive explosion in Friday's 12-8 loss with Minnesota at one point holding an 11-2 lead. Some late inning runs that really only impacted the stats o...

Guardians rebound with sweep of Oakland

Off back-to-back sweeps at the hands of the Yankees and Angels, the Cleveland Guardians needed to turn things around and that they did. Cleveland came to Oakland and was able to continue their early season trend of trading sweeps with their opponents. The Guardians came away with three wins in Oakland, each less dramatic than the one that preceded it. Game 1 featured clutch at-bats from both teams as the lead changed hands multiple times. Powering the Guardians was Jose Ramirez, Andres Gimenez, and Josh Naylor in their homer based attack. The second game of the series featured less run scoring, but some high drama late. Richie Palacios drove in two runs in the top of the 9th to break the 1-1 tie. This set up Emmanuel Clase for a easy save, his fourth of the season. This was a much...

Long ball powers Guardians past A’s

It took longer than anyone would have liked, but the Cleveland Guardians have snapped their seven-game losing streak. Jose Ramirez, Andres Gimenez, and Josh Naylor all homered in the contest.  Gimenez’ grand slam in the third and Naylor’s two-run shot in the seventh did a lot of the heavy lifting for Cleveland. The clear the bases job from Gimenez gave the Guardians a temporary 5-4 lead while Naylor’s homer was of the game-winning variety with two innings to go.  Aaron CIvale struggled yet again, allowing six runs on seven hits in just four innings. The 26-year old Guardians right hander has allowed six runs in back-to-back starts totaling just seven innings. The only other Cleveland pitcher to allow a run(s) to score was Enyel De Los Santos. Sam Hentges, Trevor Stephan, a...

Guardians swept by Yankees

The trials and tribulations of a young baseball team were on full display as the Cleveland Guardians leave The Bronx without a win. It was the sputtering New York Yankees who managed to find their form and hand Cleveland three consecutive losses. Cleveland was outscored 19-7 in the series, with Saturday’s loss being the first time the Guardians have come up short when scoring four or more runs. Unfortunately that game is completely overshadowed by the shenanigans of a certain section of Yankees fans. This group decided to berate Steven Kwan after crashing into the wall before throwing trash and other assorted items at Guardians players following their walk-off win. Even in victory a fanbase that most describe as insufferable sink to new lows. The 10-2 loss in the series finale Sun...

Guardians swept by Giants at home

The Cleveland Guardians played host to the San Francisco Giants for a three game series and things did not go well. After outscoring the Royals and Reds 44-18 in their previous four games, Cleveland was on the wrong side of a 16-4 differential in three games. San Francisco limited Cleveland's bats as they went from 58 hits to just 17, quite the large drop-off. The Guardians were having a hard time stringing hits together against a pitching staff which has a history of limiting this lineup before. Carlos Rodon, Anthony DeSclafani, and Alex Wood kept Cleveland in check allowing just three runs on 11 hits in 16.2 innings. Based off the track records of Rodon, DeSclafani, and Wood this is hardly surprising. Cleveland struggled hitting with runners in scoring position, going just 2-23 ...

Guardians lose home opener to Giants

The Cleveland Guardians played host to the San Francisco Giants in their home opener and their offense was limited in a 4-1 loss. It was the work of former Chicago White Sox pitcher Carlos Rodon who stifled the Guardians bats from the start. Rodon allowed just one run on two hits and two walks while striking out nine in seven innings. This was reminiscent of last season when Rodon no-hit Cleveland in April, followed up by another impressive performance before Cleveland was finally able to get to him in their final matchup of the year. Starting for the Guardians was Zach Plesac who pitched adequately overall. Plesac allowed two runs on even hits and one walk with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. The only issue is that Plesac allowed solo home runs to Brandon Crawford and Joc P...

Cleveland defeats Rangers in final game of season

The Cleveland Baseball Club managed to win their final game of the season and their last game before changing their name for next season. Even though the Cleveland Baseball Club finished the season with a below .500 record (80-82), they at least managed to end the season on a good note with a 6-0 win over the Texas Rangers. This was the final game for Cleveland before they change their name to the Guardians next season. Aaron Civale was impressive as he got the call in the season finale for Cleveland. Civale allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out four in 6 innings. It was the 12th win of the season for Civale and it is performances like this that made him Cleveland's leader in wins on the season. Offensively the team managed seven hits in the contest, with only Fran...

Cleveland victorious over Texas 9-6

It was a nine run stretch in the 3rd and 4th innings that led Cleveland to victory over the Rangers. In between the first and third out of the 2nd inning, the Cleveland Baseball Club scored four runs thanks to three hits, two walks, two stolen bases, and a wild pitch. It was a home run from Austin Hedges and a two-run single from Jose Ramirez which did most of the damage. Andres Gimenez would score on a wild pitch after singling and stealing a base earlier in the inning. The 4th inning was strikingly similar as the scoring started with a solo home run, this time from Bobby Bradley. A walk and some infield singles later saw Cleveland take a 9-3 lead. Even though Texas was able to come within three in the 9th, it was not a real threat as Cleveland hung on to win 9...

Cleveland defeats Royals in series finale

The Cleveland Baseball Club avoided the three-game sweep in Kansas City by coming away with a 6-1 victory Thursday night. It took a few tries, but the Cleveland Baseball Club managed to get a win over the Kansas City Royals in their final trip to Kauffman Stadium this season. Even though Cleveland was outhit 10-9, they managed to have three of their four hits with runners in scoring position drive in runs, while only one of Kansas City's three hits did the same. Shane Bieber made his final appearance of the season, allowing the one run on four hits with one strikeout in 3 innings. Logan Allen would also allow four hits in 3 innings, but no runs came across to score during his time on the mound. Sam Hentges, Anthony Gose, and Emmanuel Clase each pitched a scoreless inning in relief. ...

Cleveland hammered by Royals 10-5

The Cleveland Baseball Club lost their second straight game in Kansas City, which will keep them being above .500 for the first time since 2012. There were a couple of firsts that occurred in the Cleveland Baseball Club’s 10-5 loss in Kansas City Wednesday night. It was the first career loss against the Royals for Cleveland pitcher Zach Plesac. Additionally, it was the 81st loss of the season for Cleveland which will prevent the team from being above .500 for the first time in almost a decade. Plesac allowed five runs on seven hits with three walks while striking out two. Three of those runs came on the major league leading 48th home run of the season from Royals catcher Salvador Perez in the bottom of the 1st.  Nick Wittgren would come in the 7th and after recording two ...
