Larry Nance Jr. not a fan of mock trades

The Cleveland Cavaliers forward is not a fan of mock trades and made that very clear on Friday via his twitter account.

Larry Nance Jr. is very much aware of mock trades that people are posting and he stated his opinion on them on Friday.

The Cavs forward is obviously not a fan of people suggesting that his hometown team should trade him.

Former Cavs teammate Channing Frye took a friendly jab and Nance returned the favor.

The fact of the matter is that Cleveland should not entertain trade proposals involving the fan favorite. Larry Nance Jr. is an integral part of the team moving forward. While Nance may not be a “core guy”, he is supportive player to the players who are deemed to be core players.

Cavaliers fall short in 4th quarter vs. Pacers

The Cleveland Cavaliers squandered an eight-lead entering the final quarter and lost 114-111 to the Indiana Pacers in their final game before the All-Star break.

There was a chance the Cleveland Cavaliers could have entered the All-Star break on a five-game winning streak, but it was not meant to be. The Indiana Pacers came to town and put together a 4th quarter rally to hand the Cavs a narrow 114-111 loss.

Entering the final quarter of play, Cleveland was up 90-82 and things appeared to be trending in the right direction. The problem was the 4th quarter was pretty much all Indiana and the Cavaliers were on the wrong end of the spectrum momentum wise. The Pacers outscored the Cavaliers 32-21 in the 4th and that was enough to hand Cleveland the loss.

Another good game for Collin Sexton

As per usual, Collin Sexton led the Cavs scoring attack with 32 points. This was the second straight game with 30+ points and the 10th straight with 22 or more. Sexton was also the Cavaliers assist leader with 10, a season-high and his first double-double of the season.

Young Bull seems to be rounding into form and the All-Star break unfortunately seems to be coming at the wrong time. On the other hand, this break could give Sexton a chance to recover and refocus as the Cavs look to make a push for a playoff spot.

Big games from the big men

Jarrett Allen and Dean Wade were the Cavaliers starting big men and both contributed in a big way. Allen had his usual double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Wade had 17 points of his own with 6 rebounds. Wade went an impressive 5-8 from deep while Allen made 6 of 7 from the field and went 5-5 from the free throw line.

The Cavs starting big men weren’t the only ones to make an impact. JaVale McGee chipped in 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench.

Cleveland will return to action March 12th in New Orleans as they take on the Pelicans at 8:00 P.M after the conclusion of the All-Star break.

Cavaliers host Pacers in search of fifth straight win

Advertisements

The Cleveland Cavaliers have a chance to enter the All-Star break on a five-game win streak if they are able to defeat the Indiana Pacers.

Wouldn’t this be quite the turn of events considering where the Cleveland Cavaliers were just a few games ago. The team was on a lengthy losing streak and the team was sort of circling the drain. Monday’s 101-90 win over the Houston Rockets has Cleveland’s win streak at four and now they have a chance to go into the All-Star break with a five-game winning streak. That would be if the Cavs are able to defeat the Indiana Pacers at home Monday.

Indiana comes in on a four-game losing streak and have lost five of their last six. In fact, the Pacers are 4-11 in their past 15 games, a trend that is not essentially all that inspiring. Perhaps this trend could continue to the benefit of the Cavaliers. The Pacers have two players who are injured who could play Wednesday, Doug McDermott and Jeremy Lamb. Lamb is likely to play while McDermott is listed as questionable. This is in addition to Caris LeVert and T.J. Warren being out.

Meanwhile the Cavaliers injury situation is pretty much unchanged. Taurean Prince is day-to-day and could play Wednesday, although they could wait until after the All-Star break in an attempt to prevent any further injury. Kevin Love, Larry Nance Jr., and Matthew Dellavedova remain out. Andre Drummond is also out, but that is because the team is trying to trade him and not due to injury.

For the Cavaliers to come out victorious Wednesday they will need their three key players to step up. Those players being Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, and Jarrett Allen. When those three are right, the Cavs usually end up winning or are at least competitive. If that happens there is a good chance their win streak will run to five at the All-Star break.

Cavaliers defeat Rockets 101-90

The Cleveland Cavaliers used a strong second half in order to win their fourth straight game, a 101-90 win over the Houston Rockets.

It was a big night for Cleveland Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton as he scored a game-high 39 points in the teams 101-90 win over the Houston Rockets Monday. Sexton made 11 of 20 shots (4-8 3PT) and 11 of 15 free throws along with a game-high 8 assists as the Cavs won their fourth consecutive game. Cleveland needed someone to have a breakout type performance and they certainly got it from Sexton.

The other half of SexLand also had an impressive performance. Darius Garland finished with 14 points and 7 assists which helped provide a competent complimentary performance to Sexton. Garland’s shooting efficiency was not great (5-13 FG, 0-4 3PT), but the Cavaliers just needed someone else to score even if was not a great shooting performance.

It was another typical performance for Jarrett Allen as he continues to be the Cavs starting center. Allen grabbed 15 rebounds and scored 10 points while blocking 1 shot in his 31 minutes of play. This is exactly what the Cavaliers can expect from Allen on a regular basis.

As per usual in a Cavs win, the team dominated points in the paint. Cleveland led 50-34 in this area and was a huge reason why their winning streak stretched to four. Additionally Cleveland did something they don’t usually do, have the advantage in the assist department. The Cavaliers finished with 23 assists to Houston’s 14.

There is just one more game on the schedule prior to the All-Star break, a meeting at home against the Indiana Pacers. This is game that could see the Cavs win streak go to five as it is definitely winnable. A five-game winning streak heading into the break could give the team some confidence to maybe, just maybe make a run for the playoffs.

Cavaliers looking for fourth straight win in Houston

The Cleveland Cavaliers have a chance to win their fourth consecutive game Monday as they take on the Rockets in Houston.

It was just a few days ago the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Houston Rockets 112-96 at home. Now Cleveland is facing Houston again, but this time it will be on the road.

The last time the two teams met the Rockets were on an eight game losing streak, a streak that has since been stretched to 11. Meanwhile the Cavaliers snapped their losing streak the night before after defeating the Atlanta Hawks 112-111.Cleveland’s winning streak is now up to three games and they have a chance to run it to four if they come away with a victory Monday.

The Cavs will still be without Kevin Love as it is unlikely he returns prior to the All-Star break. Matthew Dellavedova, Larry Nance Jr., and Andre Drummond will also not play while Cedi Osman is questionable with a back injury. This time Houston will be a bit more healthy as the only two players listed as out for the Rockets are Dante Exum and Christian Wood.

No matter which team wins a streak will continue and another will end. The question is which is more likely to continue, the Cavaliers winning streak or the Rockets losing streak. Considering the length of Houston’s, it seems like it will end sooner rather than later.

Kevin Love could return after All-Star break

Advertisements

The return of the Cleveland Cavaliers power forward may take a bit more time.

According to Chris Fedor or Cleveland.com, the return of Kevin Love may occur after the All-Star break. The Cleveland Cavaliers have been without Love since the third game of the season when he exited with an injury.

Considering the Cavs only have two games left before the break this seems to be a certainty. Kevin Love recently dealt with tightness in his calf following practice and the team has literally nothing to play for. Rushing him back for literally no reason whatsoever is foolish on multiple counts.

The reality is that the Cavs are one of the worst teams in basketball and before their current three game win streak lost 10 straight. There are going to be teams interested in trading for Kevin Love should the Cavaliers look to move him. Cleveland already has to deal with how they will handle the Andre Drummond situation. Dealing with Love on top of that will make things a bit more complicated for a front office that has produced mixed results at best in regards to roster construction.

Strong 2nd half propels Cavaliers to 112-96 victory

The Cleveland Cavaliers outscored the Houston Rockets by 20 points in the second half as they won their second consecutive game.

Is this bizarro world? Not only did the Cleveland Cavaliers have a chance to win two games in a row for the first time in over a month, they actually did it. Cleveland ran with a 64-44 second half differential en route to a rare victory for the team.

Even with more than twice as many turnovers than Houston (18-7), Cleveland was still able to come away with a much needed victory. The Cavaliers did have a couple of bright spots. It was night that can be classified as raining threes as they went 16-36 from deep, led by a 4-4 performance from Dylan Windler off the bench. Cleveland also dominated in rebounds (66-38) and fast break points (21-2).

Jarrett Allen was clearly the player of the game as he’d the Cavs in points (26) and rebounds (18), both game-highs. Allen went 10-11 from the field including making his lone three-point attempt and added 4 blocks to his final line.

While SexLand combined for 34 points, it was a rough night shooing the ball for both. Collin Sexton was 9-19 (3-8 3PT) and Darius Garland was 4-14 (3-10 3PT). Luckily Garland had 10 assists to boost his night, but had an unfortunate 10 turnovers. Sexton’s 23 points was the second-highest total for the Cavaliers and in the game.

With this win, the Cavaliers finish their four game home stand as they head out on the road for two games starting Saturday. Cleveland will head to face a much tougher Philadelphia 76ers squad Saturday before a rematch with Houston on Monday.

Andre Drummond on Knicks radar

The New York Knicks could be a landing spot for the veteran center.

Andre Drummond to the Knicks? That indeed could be a possibility as the Cleveland Cavaliers evaluate their potential trade partners. According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks are keeping tabs on Drummond and evaluating whether or not he could be a fit for the team. Berman had the following to say about the Knicks as a possible landing spot for Drummond.

According to an NBA source who has been in touch with the Knicks, the club has made no decisions, but are “analyzing” whether making a play for on-the-block Cavaliers center Andre Drummond makes sense from a chemistry and winning standpoint. The Knicks are the NBA’s lowest-scoring team.

Marc Berman on the Knicks possible interest in Drummond.

Berman would later add that New York could use some of their second round picks in addition to players on the outside looking in such as Austin Rivers or Frank Ntilikina to send the Cavaliers way.

Considering that the Cavs are not playing Andre Drummond again and they are better off trading him for something rather than buying him out, this wouldn’t be the worst idea. Adding one of the above mentioned players could give Cleveland a guard off the bench behind Collin Sexton and Darius Garland.

The Cavaliers just need to figure out which trade package they can get which best suits rebuilding efforts. Maybe it is what the Knicks offer or it could possibly be what a different team proposes in a separate trade.

Cavaliers host Houston Rockets Wednesday

Advertisements

The Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to win their second straight game after ending their 10-game losing streak.

Can the words consecutive wins and Cleveland Cavaliers be used in the same sentence? Yes they can as there is a possibility that the Cavs turn one win into a winning streak Wednesday as they take on the Houston Rockets.

Cleveland came away with a narrow one-point win Tuesday which ended a 10-game losing streak which saw some of the worst basketball the team has played in quite some time. Houston is currently on a long losing streak of their own, losing their last eight games. The Rockets have their fare share of injures they are dealing with which has led to their unimpressive 11-18 record. Houston currently has P.J. Tucker, Eric Gordon, Victor Oladipo, Christian Wood, and Dante Exum on their injured list.

The Cavaliers have their fair share of injuries as well with Larry Nance Jr., Matthew Dellavedova, Kevin Love, and Tauren Prince listed as injured. This is in addition to essentially exiling Andre Drummond until a trade is found. A combination of injuries, Drummond, and poor play has led to Cleveland’s 11-21 record.

Neither team has been impressive lately and a case can be made for each team to come away with a win. If Houston wins it would end an eight game losing streak. If Cleveland ends up victorious it would be their first time winning consecutive games in a month.

Tipoff between the Cavaliers and Rockets is scheduled for 7:30 P.M.

Cavaliers finally snap losing streak

Advertisements

The Cleveland Cavaliers came away with the narrowest of victories as they snapped their double-digit losing streak against the Atlanta Hawks.

Coming into Tuesday’s game the Cleveland Cavaliers had lost 10-straight games and were playing some of the worst basketball in the league. Things went back and forth for the majority of the game with both Cleveland and the Atlanta Hawks going on impressive runs. Thanks to a clutch dunk from Lamar Stevens off a pass from Collin Sexton, the Cavs were able to win for the first time in quite some time 112-111.

Stevens finished with 8 points on 4-5 shooting in 16 minutes off the bench. As the above game-winning dunk shows it is not the quantity of the points from Stevens, it is the quality and the Cavaliers got both quality points and minutes.

The assist from Sexton on the game-winner was his fifth of the game. Sexton made more of an impact in the scoring department as he scored a game-high 29 points on 9-16 from the field. Young Bull made 3 of 5 attempts from deep and 8 of his 10 free throw attempts. The Cavs third year guard did have some foul trouble as his five fouls were an issue throughout the game.

Darius Garland, the other half of SexLand, also had an impactful performance. Garland was second on the team in scoring, but led the team in assists with 8. While he made less than 50% of shots, it was his passing ability which made a huge difference for the Cavaliers.

To the surprise of absolutely no one Jarrett Allen led the Cavs in rebounds with 14 while adding 13 points of his own. Allen has played well since being inserted into the starting lineup and it appears the Cavaliers have their center of the future.

Cleveland can turn their one win into a two-game winning streak Wednesday as they host the Houston Rockets at 7:30 P.M.
