Fox Sports ran a poll and the Cleveland Browns victory over the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football won NFL Moment of the Year.
That’s right. The Cleveland Browns won NFL Moment of the Year in a poll ran by Fox Sports. Fans voted in their poll and determined that the Browns first win since 2016 was the best moment of last season. The picture of Baker Mayfield catching a two-point conversion on a version of the “Philly Special” is now an iconic moment.
Baker Mayfield came in for an injured Tyrod Taylor and led Cleveland to victory. This was the Browns first victory since the 2016 season when Cleveland went 1-15. The following season was the disastrous 0-16 campaign in which somehow Hue Jackson retained his job.
This victory propelled the Cleveland Browns into the spotlight and this time it was for the right reasons. Baker Mayfield showed that he is indeed the real deal. The answer to the two decade long quarterback problem on the shores of Lake Erie. Name after name appearing on what was once just a Tim Couch jersey. Failure after failure. False hope after false hope. Blunder after blunder. Baker Mayfield stepped up when Cleveland needed him most and put an entire city on his back.
Baker Mayfield was able to lead Cleveland to six more wins on the year and was in the playoff hunt late into the season. A scenario which many did not expect when the season began. This is the moment that turned around a franchise. A moment that brought hope to a city that once had none. The Cleveland Browns Thursday Night comeback victory over the New York Jets is the best moment from last season.
