The Cleveland Browns will be releasing tight end Austin Hooper with a post-June 1 designation after two years with team. This will result in the team saving $9.5 million for the next two seasons while carrying a dead cap number of $3.75 million for the next three.
This comes after originally being part of the Browns plans, but those plans have since changed with recent developments in the quarterback market.
The reality is Austin Hooper was going to have a hard time living up to the contract he signed with Cleveland. At the time he was (briefly) the highest paid tight end in the league and those types of deals in free agency rarely work out. Hooper will finish his Browns tenure with 131 receptions for 780 yards and seven touchdowns.
