Browns interviewing Robert Saleh Saturday

The Cleveland Browns are interviewing San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh Saturday for their vacant head coach position.

The Cleveland Browns have announced they are interviewing Robert Saleh Saturday.

Cleveland has already interviewed Mike McCarthy, Greg Roman and Eric Bienemy this week. The Browns are wasting no time when it comes to finding a new head coach. They want to make sure they are considering all available options to them.

Robert Saleh is the defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers. San Francisco’s defense is one of the best in the league. This does not apply to the Browns defense. While offensive head coaches are getting hired more often, looking at the opposite side of the ball is not the worst idea. Yes, the Browns offense underachieved, but fixing that seems a bit more clear. Get the right offensive coordinator (easier said than done) and the offense should be humming sooner rather than later. There was a point where the offense was electric, last season was not the case. There is something there to point to that can be referred to as previous success. This does not apply to the defense. Fixing the defense is more of a challenge. There are talented players on the defense, but they are yet to reach their full potential.

Will Cleveland go with the proverbial pendulum swing and hire a defensive coach in Robert Saleh? Probably not. Cleveland is probably going to look at coaches with more experience. Maybe Robert Saleh blows them away. Maybe he has a great presentation ready for them and could convince them to give him his first shot to be a head coach in the NFL. Anything is possible as long as Jimmy Haslam owns the team.
