Browns interview Greg Roman, Eric Bienemy

The Cleveland Browns have completed their interviews with Ravens offensive coordintaor Greg Roman and Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy.

The Cleveland Browns continue to conduct their coaching interviews. Cleveland interviewed Mike McCarthy earlier this week and now have completed interviews with Greg Roman and Eric Bienemy.

Greg Roman

Greg Roman has done a fantastic job in Baltimore with Lamar Jackson. Roman has adapted his offensive to the strengths of Jackson and largely avoided things that he is not comfortable with. Lamar Jackson is clearly the NFL’s MVP and a lot of that success must be credited to Roman. Jackson is not Roman’s first success story. Roman has previously had success with Colin Kaepernick and Tyrod Taylor.

What needs to be noticed here is the type of quarterback that Greg Roman has found success with is. It is not Baker Mayfield. These are quarterbacks who use their legs often, Mayfield is mobile, but not that mobile. A coach can adapt his offense to the strengths of his quarterback and Roman has done that, but the type of offense and type of quarterbacks that have been successful is worth noting as being completely different than what the Browns currently have. Maybe Roman adjusts his schemes for Mayfield. Maybe the adjustments won’t work and Cleveland is back to where they are now. It is all about whether Cleveland feels that the adaptability of what Roman brings to the table can work with their current roster.

Eric Bienemy

Eric Bienemy completed his interview with the Browns on Friday. Bienemy has been in Kansas City since 2013. Bienemy has been the offensive coordinator since 2018. Bienemy’s success aligns with the success of the NFL’s reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes. What we know about Mahomes is that he is an elite talent. Elite talents can be successful in almost any situation. How much of Mahomes’ success is his own talent and how much is Bienemy? How much of it is Andy Reid for that matter?

Andy Reid is one the best offensive minds in football and could have a massive influence on what Bienemy does. This similar to the questions surrounding Kevin Stefanski in Minnesota. How much is Stefanski and how much is Gary Kubiak? If Cleveland can determine that Bienemy can put together an offense that elevates the talents of Baker Mayfield, Nick Chubb, etc. he should be seriously considered. If not, there are other options that the Browns plan on interviewing.
