The Cleveland Browns addressed their offensive line in Round 1 and need to do one thing and one thing only for the rest of the draft. Address their defense. Cleveland’s defense has holes everywhere. Whether it is starters or depth players, they need help in the worst way.
Linebacker
Cleveland’s linebackers consist of Mack Wilson, Sione Takitaki, and B.J. Goodson. It is possible that Wilson or Takitaki step up this season, but they still need to find a starter for this group. Inside, outside, just get a linebacker.
Safety
The safety position is sort of mess for the Cleveland Browns. Karl Joseph has potential, but he can’t stay healthy. The best days of Andrew Sendejo are behind him. Cleveland needs to add a safety as early as Round 2.
Cornerback
Denzel Ward is great when healthy and Greedy Williams has mixed results as a rookie. Cleveland’s problem is their third cornerback. The Browns signed Kevin Johnson in the offseason. Like several other players the Browns have signed, a similar problem exists with Johnson. Johnson cannot stay healthy. Another cornerback would go a long way for the Browns and their secondary which is not the healthiest group.
Defensive line
This is not about starters, this is about depth. The Browns could have an outstanding starting defensive line group if they are able to stay on the field. The depth behind those starters is the issue. Signing Andrew Billings was a great start, they just need to add more depth. A defensive tackle or defensive end taken a bit later in the draft would be the right move here.
