Browns cut Damion Square, sign JoJo Ward

The Cleveland Browns have made two roster transactions just days ahead of Week 2 of the preseason when they face the New York Giants.

While all eyes were on. the practice field Thursday, there were a couple of moves by the Cleveland Browns that took place off the field. The team released defensive tackle Damion Square and signed free agent wide receiver JoJo Ward.

Square was always a long shot to make the Browns roster considering how many other options are in play for the team. As far as Ward goes, the second receiver with the name JoJo also falls into a similar category. Cleveland really needs receivers to take the field in their second preseason game this Sunday. While there is a lot of attention being paid to Demetric Felton, it appears they want use the rookie in more of a split role than strictly as a receiver. Prior to signing Ward, it would have been mostly snaps as a receiver for Felton while now it no longer seems to be the case. In the grand scheme of things it is more about other players on the roster than the players involved in the actual transaction.
