The Cleveland Browns are now able to interview and hire their top target, New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
With the Patriots season ending prematurely, the Cleveland Browns can go and get their top guy. Josh McDaniels.
Cleveland has already fulfilled the requirements of the Rooney Rule.
McDaniels is yet to interview with the team, but has been coveted by the Browns for some time now. McDaniels is their white whale and it is doubtful they will let him get away this time. Cleveland has open head coach and general manager positions and want to be to pair the two together. A pairing of Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler in Cleveland seems likely. That is if Cleveland ultimately decides to hire the Patriots offensive coordinator to be their next head coach.
Yes, some people have reservations with McDaniels. After what happened in Denver and later Indy, it is understandable. Although, we don’t know exactly what went down with the Colts, the Broncos situation is a bit more clear. McDaniels was a bit power hungry and wanted to give the team the full Bill Belichick treatment without all the ground work. McDaniels has since learned from his mistakes and has been humbled by his missteps in Denver a decade ago and appears ready for a second chance.
There is a reason to give McDaniels a second chance. The reason he failed in Denver was due to his personality and overall method of running the team. These are correctable mistakes. It is not the same as someone who generally has a low football IQ and consistently makes the wrong decision (Mike McCarthy).
Hiring Josh McDaniels seems like the layup of the century for the Cleveland Browns. McDaniels wants the job, all Cleveland has to do is offer it to him.
