Bleacher Report released a NBA Mock Draft that has the Cleveland Cavaliers selecting LaMelo Ball with the second overall pick.
This would be an interesting selection for the Cleveland Cavaliers. In Bleacher Report’s latest NBA mock draft they have the Cavs taking LaMelo Ball second overall.
The interesting part here is that Cleveland has spent two draft picks on guards in the past two drafts. Collin Sexton was the seventh overall pick in 2018 and Darius Garland went fifth in 2019. Even with the heavy investment in guards the past two drafts, it should not deter them from going best player available when the draft does happen. Sexton took some steps forward this past season and has shown he can score when given the chance. Garland is someone who needs more time to play to see what he is as he is only 20 years old. There is definitely a lot of room for Garland to fit in with their roster.
When it comes to LaMelo Ball and his fit with the Cavs, it is a questionable, fit. Although it is worth mentioning that the team is sort of a mess, a hodgepodge of veterans and young players has led to uneven results in 2019-2020. The coaching change at the All-Star break really did not help matters for the first and second year players in Cleveland.
If the Cavaliers want to successfully navigate their way out of this uncertain future they need to take the best player available. Drafting for position does not always work in the NBA and has led to some questionable selections in the past. Take what you believe the best player be and move forward. The rest can be sorted out later.
