Blue Jackets recall Kole Sherwood from Monsters

Kole Sherwood will be leaving the Cleveland Monsters as he is being recalled by the Columbus Blue Jackets prior to their game Sunday.

Cleveland Monsters right winger Kole Sherwood will not be with the team Sunday. The Columbus Blue Jackets are in need of some offensive help and have recalled the 23-year old forward.

The move is a result of Cam Atkinson being placed on injured reserve. Atkinson has a sprained ankle for the second time this season. Atkinson injured his ankle in the Blue Jackets loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

Kole Sherwood has appeared in five games for Columbus over the past two seasons. Sherwood has failed to register a point in his time in Columbus. Sherwood’s time in the AHL with the Monsters has gone significantly better. In 34 games this season Sherwood has 11 points (8 goals, 3 assists). In 2018-19 Sherwood had 25 points (16 goals, 9 assists) in 56 appearances.

The young right winger may be a bit low on energy after appearing in the past two games for Cleveland. Add in the travel aspect of everything and that is a lot to ask out of Sherwood. This may impact his ice time in the short term.

Sherwood has 1 point coming off an assist while registering 5 shots on goal. Sherwood will miss the final game of the Monsters three game road trip.

The Blue Jackets take on the Devils in New Jersey at 6:00 P.M.
