Andrew Sendejo signs one-year deal with Browns

The Cleveland Browns have agreed to a one-year deal with former Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles safety Andrew Sendejo.

Andrew Sendejo is coming to Cleveland. The former Vikings and Eagles safety has agreed to a one-year deal with the Browns.

As Mike Garafolo mentions the deal is worth $2.25 million for the 10-year veteran. Sendejo played nine seasons for the Vikings and was quite productive during his time in Minnesota.

Pro Football Focus was quick to chime in on their grade of Andrew Sendejo

Those numbers are great, but context is everything.

The above is the amount of snaps Andrew Sendejo played during those seasons. 2017 saw a high volume of snaps and 2018 was on pace to as well. This was before his season was cut short due to a groin injury. It is entirely possible that his performance could have dropped to an even lower number than it already did if he was able to play in the other 11 games.

Sendejo’s usage dropped big time in 2019 and barely played more snaps in 15 games than the five games the season before. To be blunt, Sendejo cannot be viewed as plug and play starter for the Browns defense.

This is the second safety that Cleveland has added since free agency began, the other being former Raider Karl Joseph. Cleary the team is looking to add players to their secondary and the additions of Sendejo and Joseph show that. The reality is that the Browns need at the safety position are the same today as they were yesterday, perhaps even before the signing of Joseph. Both players were signed to one-year deals which points towards no long term solution. These are patchwork signings meant to hold the team over until they can find another option.
