Cleveland has expressed interest in bringing back the former Browns wide receiver.
Hop aboard the nostalgia train. The Cleveland Browns have reportedly shown interest in former receiver Breshad Perriman. This is in addition to the report connecting Cleveland to linebacker Lavonte David. Adding someone like Perriman to the mix would give the Browns someone who can stretch the field, an aspect that the team desperately needs. However, this should not be the primary focus of offseason additions and the team should not shell out a boatload of a cash for a skill set that is widely available and highly replaceable.
Breshad Perriman has since played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets after his 10 game stint with the Browns in 2018. Perriman laugh 16 passes for 340 yard and 2 touchdowns in what was a career reviving season with Cleveland. At that moment in time Perriman’s career was on life support and needed to find a way to get his foot back in the door of the league. The Browns gave him a chance and he has since been able to continue his career in two other stops.
The Browns and Breshad Perriman did agree to a new contract after 2018, but the trade for Odell Beckham Jr. impacted that deal. Perriman wanted out of the deal and Cleveland granted that request. Things could become awkward if the Browns keep their current receiver room and add Perriman to the mix, something that the front office should be aware of.
Signing Breshard Perriamn specifically isn’t a must, but adding speed one way or another as a replacement for their impending free agent receiver would be wise. But it is important not to focus on speed as the only trait. At the end of the day this player needs to fit in with the other receivers currently under contract.
