Shane Bieber struck out 11 Pittsburgh batters and did not allow a run as Cleveland finshed their sweep of the PIrates Thursday.
The Cleveland Baseball Club won their sixth straight game Thursday, defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0. Shane Bieber was the story of the game as he put together another impressive performance. Bieber did not allow a run on 6 hits while striking out 11. Bieber has 65 strikeouts this season and as Sarah Langs points out this is the fourth-most by a pitcher in his first six starts of a season.
With overlays like this it is easy to see why Shane Bieber is mowing down hitters at an impressive rate.
The bullpen took over for the final three frames and they did their job. The combination of Oliver Perez, Nick Wittgren, James Karinchak, and Brad Hand only allowed two baserunners (1 hit, 1 walk) and did not allow a run.
Offensively the team scored both of their runs with Beau Taylor at the plate. The first run came off an RBI single in the 2nd inning which allowed Tyler Naquin to score. The second run came across when Franmil Reyes was able to score on a throwing error in the 8th inning.
